Product Description & Reviews
This beautiful and traditional Ecuadorian Tapestry has Mother Nature (Pacha Mamma) surrounded by many of the animals in her domain. The intricate designs of each animal are hand woven and hand-dyed in vibrant colors by an artesan in a village north of Otavalo, Ecuador. Mother Nature is sacred to the indigenous people of Ecuador, because she represents "sumak kawsay" - a way of life. "Sumak Kawsay" is a Quechua term that means living in harmony with communities, each other and most importantly nature. The tapestry is created from wool and natural dyes using a treadle loom, an upright loom, powered by foot pedals. It was introduced to the indigenous people of Ecuador by the Spanish in the sixteenth century.
